Mentoring

Bookmark and Share

I just had a visit from a college-age Christian guy looking to develop his potential for ministry. He is fired up, motivated, and looking for direction. We may embark on a mentoring relationship if it seems like the right fit at the right time.

Since he stopped in I’ve been thinking about the impact that mentoring has had in my life. One of my first mentors was Pastor Warren. His investment of his valuable time had a huge impact on the direction of my life. I’m probably in ministry because of him, and serving in the church he led for 22 years. In fact, this young man and I met in the very same office where Warren mentored me many years ago. I’m so grateful to the Lord for the mentors he has place in my life.

Here are some thoughts I have on mentoring:

  • It’s one the most valuable things that a leader can do in his/her entire ministry.
  • It benefits the mentor and mentee.
  • It creates synergy that benefits God’s kingdom in exciting ways.
  • Mentoring lets you extend your ministry legacy for generations.
  • Mentoring allows you to multiply your impact on the world exponentially.
  • Being mentored gives you the benefit of learning from experience gained by others, often at a high price.
  • Being mentored exposes you to ideas, books, leaders, and concepts you’d never discover on your own

Have you ever mentored someone or been mentored? How did it impact your life?
